We Were Here Tomorrow Revealed, Taking the Co-Op Puzzle Series to a bold new future
Independent developer Total Mayhem Games has officially unveiled the next chapter in its popular cooperative puzzle franchise. Titled We Were Here Tomorrow, the upcoming release marks the fifth entry in the long-running series and will launch in 2026 for PC via Steam, as well as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and Series S.
Since the original game debuted in 2017, the We Were Here series has built a strong following among co-op puzzle fans, with more than 25 million players worldwide tackling its communication-focused challenges. Each entry places two players in separate locations with limited information, forcing them to rely on teamwork and clear communication to solve intricate puzzles. The new title promises to keep that core design intact while introducing the franchise’s biggest setting change yet.
A Bold Sci-Fi Shift for the Series
In We Were Here Tomorrow, players once again take on the roles of the Explorers, but this time they are transported to a mysterious retro-futuristic complex known as the Norcek facility. The location is packed with strange technology, hidden areas, and unsettling secrets waiting to be uncovered.
While earlier games in the series leaned into frozen castles and mysterious Antarctic settings, the Norcek facility introduces a distinctly sci-fi atmosphere filled with experimental machinery and unfamiliar systems. The developers describe the location as a place where advanced technology and unanswered questions intersect, providing the foundation for an entirely new narrative direction.
As with previous entries, the experience is built entirely around two-player cooperation. Each player explores different areas and encounters unique information, meaning progress depends on sharing clues and working through puzzles together. The iconic walkie-talkie system returns, allowing partners to guide one another through obstacles even when they cannot see the same environment.
New Abilities and Asymmetrical Gameplay
A major addition in We Were Here Tomorrow is the introduction of character-specific abilities. For the first time in the series, both Explorers will have unique tools and skills designed to interact with the Norcek facility’s technology. These abilities add another layer to the game’s asymmetrical puzzle design, where each player has access to different information and mechanics.
That asymmetry has always been one of the defining traits of the series. Players rarely experience the exact same gameplay moment at the same time. One partner may be deciphering symbols in a control room while the other navigates a dangerous corridor or manipulates machinery elsewhere in the complex. Solving the puzzle requires combining those separate perspectives into a single solution.
According to the announcement, the new abilities will expand this dynamic further, encouraging players to experiment with different strategies and approaches as they explore the facility.
Continuing the Franchise’s Focus on Trust and Communication
The core philosophy behind the series remains unchanged. Success depends on how well players communicate and trust each other, a formula that has helped the franchise stand out in the cooperative puzzle genre.
That formula was already evident in previous entries such as We Were Here Forever, which pushed players through elaborate puzzles that demanded patience, problem solving, and constant communication. Our own coverage of the game highlighted how the series thrives on moments where partners must rely entirely on each other’s descriptions and instructions to move forward.
We Were Here Tomorrow appears ready to expand on that concept with more ambitious environments and puzzle mechanics while maintaining the same cooperative spirit that fans have come to expect.
