SCORING is BORING
At GeeksVsGeeks we have never been a fan of scoring/rating mechanics in our reviews.
This is mainly because tastes are different among many people. Our goal has always been to share experiences and show people how they can enjoy games and geeky things within multi-generational families and educate those who might not be so familiar with this world but interested to join in play, having fun. We hope this reflects in the way we do reviews, interviews, news and our videos on YouTube, TikTok etc.
However quite a few of you have expressed the desire for use to add a simple way to see if a game is good or not.
Therefor after a lot of back and forth, we decided to add a simple 3 tier system consisting out of Tumbs-Up,Thumbs- Down, and Thumbs-Mid (think about) options.
Their meaning is not to be taken as the end all guide to the game but just an extra tool to get a feel of the game, or product overall.
Thumbs Up is a all-around good or great game /product we feel you should try without reservations. The experience we had with it is overall positive, suitable for everyone and should not be missed is possible. Since we are very positive people you will likely see these a lot.
Thumbs down is of course the opposite; a game that did not meet the standards we would expect of a game (or product) that is fun. Since often we curate what we review, because there is so much out there. These are rare, if you see this one, then tread lightly.
The middle option we call "Think about it". This rating does not mean mediocre or bad. Nor does it specifically mean good. These are reserved if we feel that the game/product might not be for everyone. Perhaps have a high cost compared for the content you get, The genre might be for a specific (niche) audience but within that audience it is really good, or perhaps they were not quite meeting the level that makes it a must-experience for everyone, despite it being a perfect game for others. When you see this symbol, we just we ask you to take a pause and think if this is in your wheelhouse or want to take a chance on it based on what we wrote about it in the article.
As always, we encourage you to read the entire article and make an informed decision. We love what we do but realize that all of us are looking for different things in a boardgame, video game of cool tech toy. We hope that this new traffic light system helps a little with guiding you, the reader with what to make out of the many things out there in an easy to access way. And if you have an opposite opinion on the category, we gave something, share that in the comments of the article in question and explain why you feel that way, it can really help other readers.
