Bubsy 4D Announced – Yes, Really. The Bobcat is Back
What could possibly go wrong? Apparently, not even time can stop Bubsy. At Gamescom 2025, developer Fabraz (the team behind Slime-san) and Atari announced Bubsy 4D, a direct sequel to the infamous Bubsy 3D. Yes, you read that correctly—Bubsy 3D is getting a sequel, nearly 30 years later.
Unlike the clunky cult-classic that’s haunted gaming “worst of” lists since the ‘90s, this new entry is no joke. Fabraz is promising a full-on intergalactic 3D platforming adventure, packed with expressive moves, colorful planets, and plenty of that signature Bubsy “catitude.”
Bubsy’s journey this time takes him across three themed planets with five levels each, battling against the Woolies and their robotic BaaBots. Along the way, he’ll leap, glide, claw, wall-jump, and—most importantly—transform into a physics-driven “hairball form” that lets him roll at blistering speeds. It’s a move designed for both casual fun and speedrun chaos.
Other highlights include:
-
A spaceship hub filled with redesigned returning characters.
-
Fully voiced cutscenes starring Sean Chiplock (Revali in Breath of the Wild) as Bubsy himself.
-
A shop loaded with unlockable outfits and new abilities.
-
Online leaderboards with ghost racing to show off your fastest runs.
-
A funky Fat Bard soundtrack blending jazz, electro-swing, and big band flair.
This time around, Bubsy isn’t just collecting yarn balls—he’s fighting to reclaim the Golden Fleece before the Woolies conquer the galaxy. With a blend of goofy humor, expressive animation, and a modernized control scheme, Bubsy 4D is aiming to rewrite the bobcat’s reputation.
The game is currently listed as “Coming Soon” for multiple platforms, with more details expected in the months ahead. Whether you’re a long-time Bubsy apologist, a speedrunning junkie, or just curious how this even exists—2025 just got a lot weirder, and a lot more purrsonal.
