How about a spider with a lightsaber? Or perhaps a rocket launcher is more suitable for you? That and more is what can happen to you in Spiderheck the upcoming party fighting game from Tinybuild and developer Neverjam.
In this new game that perhaps can be best summed up like this:. SuperSmash with Spiders. You take part in glorious arachnid combat as you take control of a luminous spider and parkour him through various levels against up to three other opponents. Your goal? Survive the onslaught, eliminate the competition and get a best out of 10 to come out the 8 legged champion that you are.
You will be offered an array of weapons ranging from light sabers to rocket launchers and the ability to web your way around avoiding attacks and environmental hazards. But be careful with the physics in the game as you can end up launching yourself into oblivion as you shoot that weapon and the kick back throws you in the burning lava , leaving you like Anakin after Obi-Wan had the high ground.
We played a few rounds and the game is exactly as advertised. It took me a few moments to get used to the physics, the game play mechanics and the overall goal of the game but quickly I started to be in control of my movements, web swings and attacks. There were still plenty of moments Physics took over and I swung myself right into an explosive or of the edge at a most opportune time, but I had fun doing so. The best moments might not have been me pulling of an insane move, but actually messing it up but serendipitously still pulling off a win.
Most matches are quick and chaotic as the luminescent opaque spiders fly across the screen impatiently swinging by their butts holding words of firing their guns without prejudice. One spider left standing and it is off to the next random level and do it all again until one ends up with 10 wins. So if the competition is equal in skill you can play quite a large number of rounds before a true victor emerges.
The laughter and playful smack talk emerges quickly during play and if it can bring enough levels and alternative game modes available on full release this will be a very popular game when it comes out later this year. You can already download a demo on steam right now to get but a small taste of the chaos that is to be had in Spiderheck.
