This capture card will make you consider putting your Elgato in time out

If you want to record or stream footage of a console or another PC you will need a capture card. If you look up capture cards you will notice that the landscape is dominated by Elgato. A top brand that really took effort in democratizing recording and streaming to the masses with quality products at a reasonable entry price. But there are other brands out there and over the past few years Avermedia has been building a pretty strong lineup of products as well that can offer a solid alternative to the Elgato products. After all variety is the spice of life as they say and more choice is always a good things.

At the end of last year Avermedia released the live game duo , a capture card that does two things that make it stand out. First it throughput's video in full 4K HDR while recording in a crip 1080 P and offers not one input but two. In essence if you have both a capture card and lets say a cam link , this card can take the place of both. And because this is an internal card using a PCIe slot you save on USB slots and any USB issues you might have with them, as we had, such as lack of enough power to run the device, driver issues, delays etc.

The Avermedia card costs about the same, perhaps a little less then the two other cards combined as well so that is nifty bonus and it makes this an attractive alternative. 

In the video below we take a look at how it all works and give an assessment of our experience which is to say it was a very good experience. Even if you currently only need one input, the potential to expand in the future, or even use two or more cards to get a multi-cam setup at a reasonable cost is a nice option to have. It is true that we all have different tastes and needs so perhaps this card is not for you, but you should at least give it a serious look. 

So far I have not been disappointed.
